Introduction
I have had cycling insurance for quite a few years and was asked the other week about it, so I thought I would look into it and do a post to give my experience and a bit of research from the web.
British Cycling Cover
As a member you can get Personal Accident Cover, Third Party liability Insurance and legal support, however that depends on the type of membership you have, click on link for more information Benefits | British Cycling and see below: –
British Cycling recommends Bikmo Insurance and will give you a 10% discount Bikmo | British Cycling
General Cycling Insurance
The first thing to note is that general travel insurance will only cover you for occasional cycling, however its worth asking your own travel insurance if they will offer extra cover, this is something I have not done yet but it will be the first question I will ask when I get my travel insurance for this year.
It is worth noting that there are more insurance companies offering cycling insurance and also comparison sites do now offer cycling insurance quotes, one such site was Go.Compare and gave a very interesting introduction to cycling insurance I have listed below the popular cycling Insurance company’s and comparison sites, please note there are other companies availabe: –

Limitations
As with any insurances there are limitations and some that I know off are listed below: –
- Only one bike is covered, you need to pay more if you need extra bikes covered
- Insurance is only covered for a maximum of 30 days if abroad
- Security, the insurance company will only cover a stolen bike if it is locked with certain type of bike locks, as an example see Sundays Insurance on approved Locks – Approved Locks
- Each insurance has its own limitations, see example on list – General Insurance Limitations
- The insurance company will give you a comprehensive list of what is and is not covered – Insurance Product Information Document
Bike Recovery
You may find that you have this already in your cycling insurance, so please check first, listed below are two companies and I know that some Wheelers are already with ETA: –
