Mark Spreckley’s 10,000 mile celebration ride

A Tempo ride to The Farmers Dog was originally organised by Tom Jeffery but as he couldn’t go on the day Jon Stubbington & Steve Dutton stood in as ride leaders to celebrate Mark Spreckley’s amazing achievement of 10,000 miles on the bike in aid of charity MIND.

18 riders, including Mark left The Kingsdown at 08:30 and head to The Farmer’s Dog (owned by one Jeremy Clarkson!) – one group went clockwise & the other anti clockwise taking in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside on what turned out to be a lovely sunny day.

The pub had some fantastic views and the tent from the “Grand Tour” was used as a outdoor seating area, all the tables and chairs were made out of pallets. The pub only sells British Food, so no brown or red sauce due to the foreign ingredients in them, you placed your order and were given an electronic tag to collect from the shed at the back when ready, as far as I am aware there were no complaints on the food, but note the only hot drink was tea, also no cakes were available.

Both groups finished at the Sun Inn in Lydiard where the Novas, Rouleurs & a few others also came to celebrate Mark’s amazing achievement.

The ride distance is about 100K and lumpy in places and due to the heavy rain the night before the road conditions were not at there best, however it was a good route.

Mark thanked everyone in the club for all their help and for helping to raise awareness for MIND and raising over £3000.
