Preparation
The first thing you should consider is making sure your bike is in good condition and check your tires after each ride for splinters (especially this time of year due to hedge cutting) and cuts or grit in your tyres due to extra debris on the roads. There is nothing worse than dealing with a mechanical or with a puncture when it is wet and cold.
Rather than reproducing what is already on the internet I have put a few common links to Cycling Websites for you to browse.

Cost
It can be very expensive buying clothing and equipment to keep warm, cheaper ways to buy things is to ask on our clubs Facebook page, look at shops like Aldi and Lidl who sell Merino base layers cheaper than elsewhere (but check the content of wool etc?), second-hand places such as Ebay, Facebook Market Place, Vinted etc.
Clubs often do jumble sales of clothing and equipment, which is a good way to get something cheap or get rid of cycling stuff you no longer use or won’t fit you anymore.
This weekend there is one on at Moreden Sporting Hub , click on this link: – Bike Jumble
Breakdown Cover
Consider getting some form of breakdown cover, this may come with your Bike Insurance or you can use specialised companies such as ETA there are others available.
